I've always heard/read that "cold" canings (i.e. on an unspanked bottom) hurt worse than when you have had a "warm up" hand spanking. George doesn't think this is right, but as he stated on his blog recently, is not about to argue with me if I'm basically asking for *more* punishment and he gets to get his hands on my bum for longer. (I'm paraphrasing!)
Of course, I still haven't managed to work out why some punishments I can take and some make me leap out of my skin, but I don't think a warm up has anything to do with it.
So, I would like to ask a question of readers, especially those more experienced ones, though everyone feel free to weigh in:
"What is best, to warm up or not to warm up?"

As we discussed on the telephone....warm up, but with a hot water bottle or hand warmer type thing!
That way George will not " gets his hands on your bum for longer " ( I'm para paraphrasing ).
Actually, in all seriousness, I am not sure in this instance. If George being there for a while before hand and warming you etc. will help to create an emotional space that facilitates your resilience, then I'd suggest a warm up. Otherwise perhaps you may find that upon his arrival if you move swiftly into 12 strokes cold you'll have less time to be spending thinking " I can't take this "...
I suppose I believe that if you are emotionally " warmed up" ( and that means something different for different people in various contexts ) then the importance of the physical warm up may take second place.
Just my opinion... for what its worth ;-)

Elaine, I think that it depends where your head is at the time.
In my experience if the recipient
has had to wait then a warm up may be necessary, if a summery punishment is given then no warm up is required.
Warm hugs,

It depends on the warm-up. Personally, I prefer warmed up - but only if the warm up is actually a slow move toward being warmed. Some tops, I think, misconstrue the practice so as to give a hard handspanking prior to whatever other painful designs they have.
In other words, if the 'warm up' is as bad as what comes after, skip it. :)
I like warmed up personally. I think my skin handles the spanking better and I can tolerate more spanking. Also I think that there are times when a few startling thumping hard swats are also really effective in making a certain head space for me.
Sparkle has it right on. If it starts mildly and then slowly builds... it makes the harder spanking to come much easier to take. If the "warm up" is hard and or fast though... even it's with the hand... yea, that aint helping anything (other than kicking and screaming).

It all depends on what you want to achieve. If I am getting a good punishment spanking, there often is no warm-up. This means it hurts more from the start and also the after-effects are worse (bruising, etc.).
However, if I am properly warmed up first, the spanking can continue longer, thus increasing the entire duration of the punishment.
Personally, I prefer to get a short warm-up before the spanking begins full force, but of course I don't have much say in the matter...
Thank you for the comments. Lots of food for thought. I think I might have a discussion about "warm ups" being slightly lighter, and see what happens!
